Default A Roleplaying Group

Originally I was very excited about the roleplaying opportunities Guild Wars provided, but then my heart sank as I began to think roleplaying would never be a possibility in-game. With a bit more thought, however, I have changed my mind once more; back to realizing how wonderfully Guild Wars is set up to roleplay. First, I think it is important to know what really makes a successful and fun roleplaying experience. First off, direction, someone to create a story for heroes to not only act out, but live out--anyway they can imagine can be very beneficial to character development. Secondly, there needs to be a place, and the world has already been created, filled with lore, dungeons, and monsters. And finally, to actually roleplay, one must get in the game and be their character. It might seem a little overwhelming to create an entire adventure, but luckily that's something I've already done. Here is a call-to-arms, I'd love to grab some roleplayers, pick a time, and work an adventure.
As I mentioned, direction is quiet possibly the most essential thing to roleplayers (hence, dungeon masters). Guild Wars is not a free action game, no video game can be, but the imagination is unrestricted. No, you cannot pickpocket, you cannot sleep, and you cannot harm one another whenever you please, but roleplaying can go around that with just a little creativity and thinking outside of the box. If you want to open the treasure chest it would be up to the DM to decide what the consequence of that action would be, maybe the chest is empty, maybe it's a trap, or maybe the bandits are upset someone tampered with their stash. I'd like to think of this as my job, and of course I would be adventuring with the rest of the group, just the same, but it is up to me to make it an adventure.
Guild Wars has already created a huge world to be inhabited by roleplayers. I've lately come to realize how lucky it is for roleplayers that the game is set to instances. Think about this for a moment--no griefing, and a map that will look exactly as we expect it too. What more is there to ask for? All that a roleplayer needs is to pick any place in the game, and there are monsters, geography, and a backstory already written up, but of course you are not limited to using that story. The monsters and geography you are stuck with, but you can pick any place in the game, so let your creativity fly.
If anyone would like to get in the game to roleplay with me, and let your creativity go, feel free to pm me or add me in game (Annandra Cielera). As soon as possible I'll have a group together to go and work out this experience. All I need to know is what day you are able to play, and what time (try to convert it to EST for my sake, please). There are no real requirements, but any experience roleplaying would be a major plus. Also, if anyone has a ventrilo server, or just a channel, to donate for the night it would be greatly appreciated. I discourage using ventrilo while actually roleplaying, but to get everyone in and get organized it would be nice, and I wouldn't mind getting to know some of you.

-----------------------------------------------------

Well, after all of that talk here is what I would like to accomplish on day one;

Aerie, in the Kinya Province, has been repeated victim of naga attacks. Soar Honorclaw has bestowed it upon himself to hire an adventurer to aide his clan in exterminating of the pests once and for all. He has called upon Asao, a human monk, to meet him in his home for further discussion on what matters need to be done.

Asao will compose a team of allies in her journey from Tsumei Village to Aerie. The landscape is littered with naga, crimson skull bandits, and kappa. The trek is a short one, taking nearly four days to complete.

And that is about all that needs to be said. I will be taking my monk, and the group (it is a max of four players here, and I am only expecting to get around that many for the first trial) from Tsumei to Aerie. Of course, it is not the destination here that is important at all. I've made the run several times myself, deciding what acts of "god" could happen to the party, and where they might happen. As I also mentioned, it will take about four days. This means as a group we will be setting "camp", and unfortunately Guild Wars does not allow us to pitch tents or make bonfires, but this is more-or-less going to be extra time to interact. Although I have a plan on what will happen along the journey, this is not set it stone. Maybe as night falls a thief will emerge from our group and be caught, this is all up to the group, and what each players does on his or her own. I expect everyone to interact and create a unique experience.

What you're going to need:

-Factions
-A roleplaying named character is not needed, but you will need a name or alias for us to call you. (I will be doing this with a few of my characters)
-Please have been to Tsumei village, if you are making a new character for this event that is fine, but run their on your own time.
-Proper grammar and punctuation. Obviously mine is not perfect, but when you are in game typing a few sentences at a time, at least make it obvious you put some effort into it.

I can tell you, if I were even considering coming I'd flat out tell you no simply because some of the things you said... The whole "dungeon master" tangent you went on where you have some power trip is just unpleasant.

The problem with you assigning basically what you want to happen in it's entirety just comes over really badly with me, I suppose.

I don't role play, I never have. When I was in school, I was more along the lines of someone who would've make fun of those individuals.

But, I write a lot and I'd like to think that I'd be decent at it if I ever did; but, one person having so much control over the other people just comes off as a very foul odor. That basically gives you authority over a majority of the creative decision making, stunting the rest of participants to simply that, participants. That's great if that's what you're looking for, but it sounds like crap to me.

Honestly, I think it's a pretty nerdy thing in and among itself to even be playing a computer game; but, I think I'd even start calling myself a loser if I role played. It's just a wee bit lame outside the bedroom. :P

However, I digress. Good luck with your group.

P.S. You'd have great luck finding like minded people in presearing. Just make an attractive female character and stand around. They'll come to you.

Ironically, that could be taken so many ways...

ill join if you change role play into coordinated attacks and tsumei village into opponent guild hall.

otherwise, this will probably turn into you and 1 other guy talking for hours on vent with no relation to the game. which is creepy to me.

on a side note, props for you on comming up with all this "role playing" shit. cause when I look at guild wars, i see a dead game supposedly built on pvp mechanics. how you got this role playing stuff out of looking at guild wars is truly an accomplishment.

Hmmm... Intruiging, but I'd rather play through the game and have that be the roleplay story.

For everyone who is coming in here criticize roleplaying: If you don't like it, don't do it. Please don't spoil someone else's fun in the process. In a game that has had little to no new content released recently, it's a way to keep playing fun. And sometimes, some of us enjoy going beyond the story we're given. We're not forcing you to play, and because GW is instanced, we're not even forcing you to stay out of our way or avoid breaking immersion. Also, to the people whose main issue is with having a DM: so long as the DM plays, the control is not a huge problem. Obviously, the DM in that case would not do anything completely devastating to the party, because it would affect him/her too.

Yes, I'm a proud player of a D&D variant and an acknowledged nerdess - just getting that out there.
